Just under a year ago, Carey Mulligan was sleeping quite soundly at night. Then she found out An Education was going to play at the Sundance Film Festival. The weight of shouldering her first lead suddenly hit her. "I started freaking out that if everybody hated it, it would be all my fault," she explains. "I had these anxiety dreams – very basic anxiety dreams – where Geoff Gilmore, the [former] director of Sundance put me in a car and made me leave for being disappointing. In Park City, in the main high street, he gets this black car and he's like, 'Get in. You've got to go. Everyone thought it was going to be really good!'"
Fortunately, everybody did think it was good. Better than good, as it goes. Winner of the Audience Award, An Education has since become one of the most talked-about films this year. What's more, the London-born Mulligan has become the centre of attention for her breakthrough role as Jenny, a 16-year-old schoolgirl who falls under the spell of an older man (Peter Sarsgaard) in 1960s suburban England. Already nominated for a British Independent Film Award for Best Actress, an Oscar nod is now a very real possibilit y (Ladbroke's make her second favourite at 5-1 to win Best Actress, behind Meryl Streep for Julie & Julia). No wonder Time magazine recently proclaimed, "Carey Mulligan: a star is born".

Sorry Eastwick fans, but you should’ve seen it coming.

via James Hibberd’s the live feed:
ABC has picked up five more episodes of Tuesday night’s “The Forgotten” while deciding against ordering additional episodes of “Eastwick.”
In addition, ABC is yanking the planned upcoming debut of reality show “Let’s Dance.”
________________________________________
With the exception of scrapping plans for the only just recently announced to begin with “Let’s Dance”, these moves aren’t a big surprise. Perhaps the move of picking up The Forgotten is surprising for some, but Jerry Bruckheimer’s show will live on for at least 5 additional episodes.

Is it fair that one of Hollywood's most successful and richest young actors didn't set out to be a performer -- in fact, never took an acting class -- when there are thousands of others like him, sweating auditions, posing for head shots, tweeting their every move?
To underscore the point: Angus T. Jones, the "half" in the No. 1 comedy on TV, “Two and a Half Men,” doesn't even know if he wants to continue to hone the skill that's made him a millionaire when the 7-year-old CBS sitcom goes off the air. He's a 16-year-old high school sophomore who wants to go to college, and that's as far as his plans go.
"I don't know what I'm going to take or where I'm going to go," he said. "I'm not really sure. I don't really know if I want to do acting as a career. I really don't know what I want to do yet."
But what does he say to those legions of young actors who study, worry and undoubtedly envy him?
"I'm sorry?" Jones replied sweetly, his shoulders shrugging as his eyes melted into his signature broad grin. "It's always come naturally to me, but I don't know if I want to do this as a career."
( i can't believe he's a MILLIONAIRE )

Two-time Academy Award nominee, Will Smith, may have found the project that will finally win him that elusive Oscar. According to our inside source, The Hollywood Cog, Smith is set to produce and star in Flowers for Algernon, a modern-day adaptation of the Daniel Keyes’ novel. The movie is being set up at Sony Pictures and Smith’s production company, Overbrook Entertainment, along with Polksy Films. Tracy Nyberg, an associate producer on Hancock and an assistant to Will Smith on I Am Legend, is also set to produce.
Flowers for Algernon has been adapted several times since it was originally published in 1959, most famously Ralph Nelson’s Charly, which won Cliff Robertson an Academy Award in 1969. The short story (and the subsequent novel) is about Charlie, a mentally retarded man who is the first human test subject for an experimental surgery that artificially increases intelligence. The experiment had already been performed successfully on Algernon, a lab mouse. Charlie’s newfound intelligence (his IQ skyrockets from 68 to 185), however, comes at the cost of his ability to socialize normally, as he becomes increasingly alienated from those around him. Emotional consequences are involved when Charlie learns the truth of the experiment.
The project seems ideal for Smith, who was nominated for an Oscar for his performances in Ali and Pursuit of Happyness. Smith will bring his populist appeal to yet another Oscar contender.
Smith has several other projects currently in development, including an American remake of Oldboy, potential sequels to Hancock and I, Robot, in addition to a prequel to I Am Legend. No word on where Flowers for Algernon will fall into Smith’s filming schedule, but I’d expect the project to be fast-tracked, once a director comes aboard. And though no director has been announced, Smith’s Happyness and Seven Pounds collaborator, Gabriele Muccino, seems a likely candidate.
